The Château de Vincennes is a 10-minute walk from the apartment, as is the center of Vincennes, 15 minutes from the center of Paris by metro, 20 minutes from the Louvre, 25 minutes from the Champs Élysées, 30 minutes from the Eiffel Tower, and very well placed for a day trip to Disneyland Paris and La Vallée Shopping. The Bois de Vincennes is the capital's largest green space, covering some 10km². Three times the size of Central Park, this large wooded area is ideal for a multitude of activities in fine weather. From boat rides to bicycle tours, horseback riding and even nude excursions, you'll discover the many facets of this woodland, long tended by kings. A beautiful forest is sad without a few lakes. There are several in the Bois de Vincennes, and activities have developed around these charming watering holes. One of the most popular is boating, a must. Lac Daumesnil to the west and Lac des Minimes to the east are ideal for free boating. Always a pleasure with friends or family when the sun is shining. CHATEAU DE VINCENNES Located at the gateway to Paris, the Château de Vincennes is a historic landmark that played a major role in the history of France. It is the only surviving example of a medieval royal residence. A must-see! On the site of today's Château de Vincennes, a hunting lodge once stood for the King of France in the 12th century. Saint-Louis made it one of his favorite vacation spots, and it was then that Vincennes became the principal royal residence. Construction of the château began during the reign of Philippe Auguste. In the 14th century, an enclosure, towers and keep were erected: at 50 meters, it is the highest surviving medieval fortification in Europe! The Sainte-Chapelle was built at the same time, at the request of Charles V. Located within the castle walls, it houses the relics of Christ's Passion. The dungeon became a state prison in the 15th century, where famous figures such as Diderot, the Marquis de Sade and Mirabeau were detained.
