THEATRE DU CHATELET It is to the architect Gabriel Davioud (Saint-Michel fountain, gates of the Parc Monceau...) that we owe the Châtelet theatre, as well as the Théâtre de la Ville, located just opposite. The programme of this high place of Parisian culture, inaugurated in 1862, is innovative and demanding: classical music concerts, theatre, dance shows, internationally renowned musicals... The Châtelet theatre also hosts a nightclub - Joséphine - for clubbing evenings several times a week, in an original setting.TOUR SAINT JACQUES The Saint-Jacques tower is a lonely building, standing in the middle of the square that bears its name. A flamboyant Gothic bell tower built between 1509 and 1523, the Saint-Jacques tower is the only remnant of the Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie church built in the 16th century and destroyed in 1797. This sanctuary was the meeting point and departure point on the via Turonensis (or Tours route) of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
